a pinch of green...

There's some St. Patrick's Day flare on our menu this week (Irish Car Bomb!) & subtle hints of green so nobody will pinch our cupcakes (sugared lime zest, chopped pistachios, & fresh mint fudge).  Confession...I did try to make a dominant green cupcake (putting Chlorophyll in the marshmallow frosting, which turned it into a beautiful sage green color), but once the green frosting was on the cupcake, Kara & I took one look at it and confirmed that forced colored frostings just don't jive with Enjoy Cupcakes' style.
Above pictured cupcake:  Lemon Lime Meringue Chardonnay...Chardonnay cake, filled with meyer lemon & lime curd, topped with lightly toasted meringue frosting and sugared lime zest.

my 2 new favorites...

Sometimes I have a hard time working the storefront and “selling” cupcakes (THANK GOD FOR KEVIN!).   It’s not that I don’t enjoy interacting with customers, meeting new people, catching up with our regulars, etc.  Here’s why…People often ask, “did you make these” and for some reason when I answer, “yes” – I just feel awkward.  It’s strange for me to say, “this one is so good” because it kind of comes off as arrogant (contrarily, Kevin can sit behind the counter and authentically say, “my wife made these & I think they are so good,” and it’s romantic and lovely).  My point, it’s hard for me to “sell” the cupcakes.

But I have to open up, totally unashamed, and say that the dream bar and chocolate peanut butter pretzel cupcakes are insane (there I go sounding conceited, so please forgive me!).   Several hours after my baking shift this morning, I actually drove to the shop to be a customer and snag a dream bar cupcake because ever since I ate one yesterday, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how badly I wanted to eat another one.  And just now, I ate not one, but 2 chocolate peanut butter pretzel cupcakes.  I am so buried in cupcakes all the time that I typically just eat bites of the new flavors as a quality control obligation, but with these 2 flavors on the line-up this week, I am doomed!

However, after offering 270 cupcakes flavors, I’ve learned that there are flavors and preferences for every individual and you just may not agree with my fondness for dream bar & choc. p.b. pretzel cupcakes :)

Cupcake Furniture #2

I found this chippy shelf at an antique show in Santa Ynez & have been dying to fill it up with cupcakes, so I did!

The cupcakes adorning the chippy shelf are Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel (3 things just begging to be combined!), Dream Bar & Rizogalo (Greek Rice Pudding).  We tasted dream bars for the first time on Christmas (made by the lovely Jill La Fleur) and they were heaven!  The flavors & textures have been in the back of my head ever since and I've finally translated them into a cupcake (coconut, pecan, brown sugar, & chocolate - YUM!).  The Rizogalo cupcakes were on our menu early last year and Kevin's been nagging me on a weekly basis to make them again (his other favorite behind the Bananas Foster) - come and get 'em before Kevin eats them all :)

island inspiration...

opal & i went to Maui to see the family and brought some "aloha" back to you ~

Tropical Chardonnay...Chardonnay cake, filled with mango curd, topped with passion fruit frosting, guava butter & a little mango.  There's a mini stuffed cheesecake cupcake on the center of the plate too because I like the color :)

Mocha...chocolate cake, filled with espresso chocolate mousse, topped with espresso frosting, chocolate sauce & a chocolate covered espresso bean.  The rich coffee flavor is from Maui Oma Coffee Roaster's espresso beans ~ Hawaiian Nights blend.
