some slo fun...

Earlier in the week I went to SLO for some much needed R&R.  I focused on making it a foodie adventure, mixed in some shopping (where I quickly realized in the boutiques that if I had to ask if it was a dress or shirt, then I was too old for the garment!), running & attempts to sleep.  I was turned on to some super fab spots and wanted to share the love..first stop Big Sky Cafe it's still as awesome as I remember it being 10 years ago.  The food is so fresh and perfect.  I had a blast there with Ms. Amy O from Amy Bakes Cupcakes in SLO.  She's lovely and her cupcakes were super delish.  My new cupcake friend spoiled me with mini Strawberries & Creme and Lavender delights!  Amy steered me to The Secret Garden for amazing organic herbs & spices .  I bought some hibiscus, in preparation for making a honey hibiscus cupcake, but my experimentation went way wrong - oh well, another time (maybe I should try actually following a recipe!).  Then onto Paper Sky for some pure visual delight.

By far the most spectacular paper store I have ever been in.  Next - dinner at Koberl @ Blue was one of the best meals I have ever had...wild mushroom truffle soup and buffalo empanadas.

Bed time & breakfast here @ The Sanitarium Spa B&B  Suzie, the breakfast was heavenly!

By mistake I ended up at Avila Valley Barn on my way home & scored some lush berries and sweet pineapple for this week's cupcakes.

There's great produce, packaged product and home decor goodies

AND cute farm animals that the kiddies can feed.

Last stop, Adelina's Bistro in Nipomo (a facebook connection tempted me to go there with her mention of truffle fries...it's a good thing I ran in slo!  The fries were YUMMY!)

orange, spice & all things nice...

Along with the Pink Verveine Champagne cupcake, the other 2 new flavors this week @ Enjoy are...

Mandarin Orange Creamsicle...vanilla cake, filled with mandarin orange curd, topped with orange buttercream (made with fresh squeezed oranges & zest) and a puddle of OJ!

Subtle Spicy Chocolate...chocolate cake, filled with chili ancho & cayenne dark chocolate fudge, topped with spicy, brown sugar chocolate frosting and spiced sugar crystals.  I used my favorite brand of spices, Spicely Organic, it's sold in small quantities and is intensely flavorful (pure flavor)!

pink verveine champagne...

I LOVE the smell of verviene!  On Sun night we had dinner at Flat Bread Full of Life in Los Alamos and ended our meal with an absolutely delicious fig almond verveine tart - I was immediately inspired to make a verveine infused cupcake.  So...the pink verveine champagne cupcake was born.

Bubbly champagne cake, filled with verveine infused pudding, topped with fresh raspberry frosting & a champagne soaked berry

The beautiful (and flavorful) berries are from Summerset Farms in Santa Ynez (You can even pick them yourself!).  The Lemon Verbena plant is from our local Harrison Hardware (& is now planted so we can enjoy lots more of the flavor in the future).

employee appreciation...

Today the enjoy cupcakes trailer showed up at EXCELTA in Buellton as a surprise to their employees!  The president wanted to show the employees appreciation for a great month and cupcakes were a fun way to say, "THANKS"!

4 more new flavors...& a milestone for "brother"

Here are 4 new flavors...come on in and try, let us know what you think and if they should return in the near future!

Almond "Enjoy", inspired by the famous, Tyler! Chocolate cake, filled with rich coconut fudge, topped with coconut frosting (made with coconut milk & coconut shavings), slivered almonds and chocolate sauce.

PB&J! Vanilla cake, filled with strawberry preserves, topped with creamy peanut butter frosting and a dollop of jam.

Triple Chocolate Malt! Chocolate cake, filled with house-made chocolate malt pudding, topped with chocolate malt frosting, ground whoppers and chocolate chips.

Apricot Chardonnay! Chardonnay cake, filled with chopped apricots & pastry cream, topped with apricot frosting, a puddle of apricot puree & sugar sprinkles.

I have to share a simple, sweet story...a brother and his older sister came into the shop yesterday for cupcakes. They seemed extremely enthusiastic and I was excited to help them! The both asked for, "the cupcake with the pink frosting" (lavender raspberry lemonade). They got their cupcakes and big sister proudly shared with me that her brother learned how to ride his bike that day and as a reward they rode to get cupcakes! What an accomplishment and we were so thrilled to be part of the achievement! I asked him if he can handle 2 cupcakes and gave him a 2nd reward!

lavender raspberry lemonade

5 new flavors @ enjoy cupcakes this week! First...lavender raspberry lemonade. I received a couple requests / suggestions through facebook last week for a raspberry lemon cupcake and we've been wanting to infuse lavender into a cupcake flavor for weeks - so Opal & I headed to Clairmont Farms in Santa Ynez for some culinary lavender.

Opal got to run through the rows of amazing, fragrant lavender!
