a magical, rustic wedding...

Last Saturday, I was blessed to make desserts for a beautifully orchestrated wedding.  The bride was one of those lovely, ideal customers that basically says, "I like how you decorate your cakes, so do what you think is best."  I was in heaven creating the 5 cakes & 350 cupcakes.  The venue (restored barn at Rancho Dos Pueblos) and overall feel of the wedding was rustic so the cakes had to follow suit (what a dream come true to make rustic, "anthropologie" inspired cakes & cupcakes).  Even the flavors and decorations were inspired by nature / country (lemon poppyseed, banana, spice, pumpkin, frosted cranberries, & blackberries).

The dessert table had the most amazing glass jar chandelier hanging above it

There was not a detail left unturned at this wedding.  The event design and flowers were by Tricia Fountaine Design and the gorgeous, creative couple added their own creative touches.  Check out some of the fantastic, breathtaking details and snapshots of the couple captured by the amazing Braedon Flynn on the ONCE WED blog.  The above photos were taken by Braedon Flynn.  Congratulations Laura & Ryan!!!!

Christmas party cupcakes...

we are getting into the spirit of Christmas with festive cupcake flavors (and we think you need some at your holiday party!)

Cranberry Orange Clove...vanilla clove cake, filled with house-made orange curd, topped with orange frosting and "frosted" cranberries.

Candy Cane Cupcakes...chocolate cake, filled with fresh mint fudge, topped with vanilla frosting and crushed candy canes

Black Friday Cupcakes...chocolate cake, filled with vanilla pastry cream, topped with chocolate fudge frosting and dark chocolate sauce.

Are there certain flavors, smells, sights that make you feel like it's Christmas?  Please share and let's turn it into a Christmas cupcake flavor!

"crazy! never been done before!!!"...

Says Kevin.  Truly, I don't think it has been done before.  There are pineapple guava fruit wedges stuffed inside the Chardonnay cupcake this week.  Our pineapple guava tree is overly abundant and we are not letting those tasty delights go uneaten.

I admit, I was hesitant when Kevin made this suggestion, but it's amazing (sweet, tart, rich with texture and probably will be the most unique thing you've eaten).  When the fruit first starting falling a few weeks ago, we made a "sweet tart" Chardonnay cupcake with the fruit, but it just came out OK - not great (I had made a fresh curd with the fruit and we've since discovered it's best when left alone in it's raw form).  We've had multiple people declare it as the best cupcake they've eaten - so it will be back next week.  Come in and try it before the pineapple guavas are out of season.

Pineapple Guava Chardonnay - Chardonnay cake with a pineapple guava fruit wedge inside, topped with pineapple guava frosting and sugared zest

We also have 4 other new flavors this week

From left to right ~ Stuffed Cheesecake (vanilla cake with homemade cheesecake stuffed inside, topped with vanilla mascarpone frosting), Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Dough (chocolate cake, filled with cookie dough, topped with peanut butter chocolate chunk frosting), Double Chocolate Mint Fusion (chocolate cake, filled with housemade fresh mint fudge, topped with sweet cream frosting and a puddle of peppermint chocolate sauce).  Our 4th new flavor, which I failed to photograph, is Spiced Apple Cider (vanilla cake, filled with homemade spiced apple butter, topped with apple cider frosting and cinnamon sugar)...tastes like Christmas!

Also to share, I turned our signature cupcake into a cake!  That's right, a Chocolate Blackberry Syrah cake (for a very loyal & fun customer).

my little party crasher...

If I've delivered cupcakes to you, chances are I've had my little delivery buddy with me (Opal!).  On Sunday we made a special trip to Santa Barbara to deliver lollicakes to a very special girl's 7th birthday party (the birthday girl's mom is a very dear friend of mine).  One of the benefits of being my delivery buddy is that Opal got to crash the party.

The birthday girl was so sweet and gracious to Opal, and even shared a lollicake with her.

Thank you so much for sharing your day with us!

chocolate pecan pie & tiramisu

in cupcake form...

It doesn't look like chocolate pecan pie, but it tastes like it!  Chocolate Pecan Pie...Chocolate cake with a gooey & rich pecan, chocolate filling, topped with chocolate frosting and a pecan "truffle"

Tiramisu...vanilla bean cake, soaked with a generous portion of Kaluah, filled with espresso mascarpone mousse, topped with kaluah frosting & cocoa.  We've had this flavor before, but hopefully it's improved from last time.  Let us know what you think!

some wedding cupcakes...

I love being a part of life's celebrations with our goodies - it's one of my favorite parts of this business.  Here are some pics from a couple recent weddings.  The first one is from today - a Tuesday!  The couple and 46 of their friends & family traveled in limos to 3 different wineries (got married @ the first stop) and ended at Riverbench Vineyard & Winery in Santa Maria with wine & cupcakes.  I kept asking the bride beforehand if I could come!  They chose all white cupcakes and then super rich chocolate syrah lollicakes.

This wedding was on Sat at St. Mark's Church in Los Olivos.  The "spread" included chocolate blackberry syrah, pomegranate orange chardonnay and chocolate mousse cupcakes & a creme brulee cake with shaved chocolate inside (the groom loves chocolate!)
