blue magnolia...

i did a delivery to Blue Magnolia's brand new, totally gorgeous shop (rustic, retro, vintage delight!) and left with these beauties ~

since i didn't have my camera there to capture the lovely shop, you'll have to go see for yourself.  i had a stressful morning, but being there calmed & rejuvinated me.  was it Kerstin's kind, inviting demeanor?  was it because i could see & smell the ocean?  was it all the fragrant roses?  was it the soothing white & blue colors?  i think it wall all of the above!

Raspberry Sherbet (formally know as raspberry lemon champagne - Kevin gave this cupcake a new name after he tasted it!).  Champagne cake, filled with meyer lemon curd, topped with raspberry frosting and a lemon curd filled berry

mocha mint...espresso cocoa cake, filled with fresh mint fudge, topped with vanilla frosting, fresh mint glaze and mint infused dark chocoalte

chocolate sticky toffee...chocolate cake, filled with toffee sauce, topped with maple cream cheese frosting and pecan "mess"

Every week we feature our "signature treat", which is the Chocolate Blackberry Syrah cupcake.  Since we always have blackberries in the mix, we haven't even thought about offering another blackberry cupcake - until now!  Meet the Blackberry Chardonnay cupcake...Chardonnay blackberry cake, filled with vanilla mascarpone mousse, topped with blackberry frosting.  The above board showcases the 2 blackberry cupcake varieties & our love of the luscious little berries!

granola cupcake + recipe!

This may be the yummiest, texture richest cupcake we've made...

Honey "Bear-e" Granola Cupcake...vanilla bean cake, filled with fresh, finely chopped strawberries & pastry cream, topped with meyer lemon honey frosting, house-made honey granola and a blueberry.  

I haven't made granola since I was in high school, so I called my mom up for a recipe and put my own spin on it.  I think the trick to making granola is to slooooooow cook it at a very low temp.

Nutty Honey Lemon Granola

6 Cups organic extra thick whole grain oats

1 Cup sunflower seeds

1 Cup almond slices

1 Cup honey 

5 Tablespoons meyer lemon zest

1/4 Cup coconut oil

1/2 Cup sunflower oil

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well.

Press firmly onto 2 baking pans (13x18") that have been lightly sprayed with oil to prevent sticking

Bake at 200 degrees for 30 minutes (after 15 minutes stir up the granola and re-pack), then turn oven to lowest setting (typically "warm") for about 4 hours (every 30 minutes stir it up).

flavor board #1

i'm super excited to introduce a new weekly segment that will appear on our blog called, "Flavor Board".  Obviously, I love cupcakes, but I also love design and this segment's a vehicle for bridging the two loves!  Each week I'll select one of our cupcake flavors and showcase some eye candy that either inspired the cupcake, or shows how the cupcake inspires me (& I hope in turn it inspires you)!  Enjoy!

 

Strawberry Basil Lemonade Cupcake...vanilla cake, filled with basil lemon curd, topped with fresh strawberry frosting & a berry wedge.  This cupcake flavor would be perfect for a summer, picnic inspired wedding with a gourment lemonade stand, dainty potted basil plants as favors, vintage pitchers full of bright yellow & red flowers, green jadite cake stands (adorned with mini cupcakes!) and eyelet table coverings.

busy weekend

We had a jam packed weekend with some fun highlights!  On Saturday we took the cupcake trailer to the Santa Barbara Wedding Couture Show.  There were amazing vendors and lots of glamour!  I loved our funky vintage set-up in the middle of all the gorgeous glam!  Our "neighbors" were SBB Gourmet Catering.  They are wonderful, easy to connect with people!  Their food was outstanding & I was very partial to the basil lemonade.  It inspired a new cupcake flavor, so next week you'll see Strawberry Basil Lemonade Cupcakes!  Here are a couple sneek peaks of our display.  I can't wait to see the photos that Linda Chaja took!

We took the trailer to a wedding in the hills of Santa Barbara right after the event.  The trailer looked so adorable at night with the lights, especially with the bride & groom snuggled inside eating cupcakes.   I'm excited to see the photos from Ashleigh Taylor Photography (we were a bit too tired to remember to pull out our camera!).

We tried 3 new flavors this week~

It was hot this week so this refreshing flavor was perfect!  Tangerine Mint Mimosa...Chamgange cake, filled with house-made tangerine mint curd, topped with tangerine frosting and sugared tangerine zest. 

Caramel Cookie Dough...Vanilla bean cake, filled with chocolate chip cookie dough, topped with vanilla frosting, chocolate chips & house-made caramel.  

 Vanilla Honey Lavender...Vanilla cake, filled with honey lavender mousse, topped with a honey, meyer lemon frosting and lavender infused sugar.  I met with a very cool bride & groom a couple weeks ago and they requested a lavender flavor (she's going to wear a dark purple wedding dress - so fun!).  I made this flavor especially for Nancy & Joe to sample.

A special thanks to Kara for working like crazy with me in the kitchen this weekend.
